This hairy bear is my husband Glenn and sometime in March he will be bald, Ahhhhh.

Glenn is taking part in the Worlds Greatest Shave to help raise money for Leukaemia and other blood related cancers. We have known too many people lately who’s lives have been touched by the insidious hand of cancer not to do something to help someone. Although the people in my life who have been and still are bravely battling cancer have been fighting solid mass monsters, Neuroblastoma, Retinoblastoma, Breast cancer and Testicular cancer, we have now seen how vicious this disease is and how dangerous the treatment itself can be and are determined to help anyone fighting any form of it in anyway we can.

I have never been the sort of person who is easily star struck. I have never had a hero I followed until now. Now my hero is a little two year old boy named Finn who although he is the size of a mouse has fought Neuroblastoma with the heart of a lion. It is glorious now, after seeing him so sick for so long, to see smiles growing across his face as the hair grows back on top of it. What Finn had inside of him was scary and he is only here today because of the funding that has gone into cancer research. And the research is making a difference I know people who were told bluntly that there would have been no hope for them only 5 years ago but now with new research developments they have a treatment plan.

And so in the hope of helping more people find treatment plans that will save there lives one of my curly whirly will be curly and whirly no more. DSC01595

We are so lucky, we can hold our loved ones without fear of being parted from them. We who are lucky should support others who don’t have that luxury.

I must admit it’s going to be a little strange come March when all this hair is gone. I know he’s slightly unkempt compared to standard male grooming practises but I have become quite accustomed to the cave man in my house. Besides I have no idea what’s under there.

The kids were a little freaked by the idea too. The general response was summed up neatly my Lilly "No I want Daddy to grow more hairs not cut them off" But after we explained to them how the money will help sick people they were all for the idea. Then after they all jumped all over him on the trampoline landing on and pulling his hair, Glenn was completely convinced he had made the right choice too. DSC01642

So pleases please please help us raise money for a cure. Help us help scientists and doctors wipe this monster out. Kill it with lasers. Kill it with knowledge. Kill it with funding, every little bit counts. Go to Glenn’s Worlds Greatest Shave page and join him to Help.

Also I mentioned half jokingly to a friend that if he reached his target I would do something drastic to my hair too. But now I think it’s a pretty good idea (Mostly because his target if far off) and I’m going to leave it up to the internets too. If he reaches his target you guys pick I’ll cut it all off, dye it bright purple whatever that’s how important I feel this cause is. So one final beg, please help us make ourselves look ridiculous for the sake of others.

Also I just had a thought if you would like to re post this on your blog please do I’m normally not so bold as to jump around waving my arms but if it gets rid of cancer watch me wave.

Hattie’s Supa IGA would love to help. Can you please put a one page together on “Jill’s brother in-law and the staff will do the rest. Just a few photo’s like on the post and we will come up with some great $$$$$$. Better still I might just print off the post. How much is the target. I’m on a mission now. Every year I have been involved in this fundraiser and this year so much closer to home. Lion Heart Fin did capture many followers. WE MUST KILL THIS BEAST!!!

I think he has set the target around $500. I didn’t think of Hatties that’s brilliant Jill I totally forgot I know someone how know’s people 🙂
I don’t know where the shave will happen yet we were thinking of ringing local hairdressers and seeing if they wanted to be involved but wherever it will happen I’ll video it and take photos so everyone can see.
Do you think printing off this post will do, I’m sure you can come up with some spectacular poster display to attract attention.

I think Glenn’s target is going to get shattered and you are going to have to do something with your lovely locks Sarah!

  4. Thanks for your support of the Leukaemia Foundation and our patients, their families and carers – we and they need you. Thanks also to Jill Grant and Hattie’s Supa IGA for their ongoing support – great Queenslanders they are
