Summer shoes are always more exciting than winter ones. New summer sandals bring with them the promise of picnics by the river, barbeques at friends houses, long hot evenings full of community and adventure. Oh yeah they also remind us that November is just around the corner. November is the month of madness in our house hold. We have Sabrina’s 1st birthday, Elijah’s 6th and my brothers’ some number bigger than 6th. Some of our friends also decided that November is a good month to birth children so we literally don’t have a weekend free.
But there fun aren’t they, birthdays, I used to get so wound up with expectation jitters that when the guest arrived I would rip the door open and blurt out "Happy Birthday" before they even opened their mouths. I’ve never been very good with social interactions.
The new shoe excitement was quadrupled this time with the purchase of Sabrina bean’s very first pair of, officially fitted by an actual shoe shop assistant, shoes. She was so good, this baby has had a thing for shoes and toes really since the moment she could move, It was so cute watching her smiling at the lady as she measured her as if she suddenly realised she was getting new shoes too. Look at them aren’t they just so adorable! or as my son would say "red shoes for Dorable Sporina" (he had a bit of trouble with those two words and its kind of stuck)
Alanah calls them her Dorothy shoes and pictures her dancing around clicking her heels….
I can’t help thinking of them as Little Red Riding Shoes. I suppose that is the difference between a sister and a mother. Sisters see you dancing and sparkling, embarking on adventures protected by friends and a giant fairy floating in a bubble. Mothers constantly worry about the Big Bad Wolf that is hiding in the bushes.
Lani insisted that we take a photo of all the new shoes together. I’m afraid this is the best one I got but they are all there. Lilly’s have flowers, note the flowers, they are very important. Eli’s are plain and dark which makes him happy the only problem being they are dark navy and not black, got any blacker? Alanah’s are the only ones in the whole shop that fit her skinny feet but she said she likes them so phew!
Thanks, I’d almost forgotten about November coming up 🙂
